DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technologies connect a computer to the Internet, using copper pair phone line wiring in conjunction with unique hardware on the switch and user ends of the line, allowing for a continuous digital connection over the phone lines.
DSL can encode more data and allow Internet connection speeds of up to 50 times faster than standard modems, and up to 12 times faster than an ISDN connection.
GDS launched its advanced DSL access network in the context of a local loop unbundling and historic agreement with the Ministry of Telecommunications across Lebanon. The network equipment, which includes ADSL 2+, reach DSL, and Annex M, was supplied by Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU), the undisputed world leader in DSL networks. As regulations permit, advanced services such as IPTV will also be offered.
